A product for homeless in Bolzano.
Kangarù is a belt with pockets designed to be worn under a shirt or jacket, making it difficult for a homeless to lose documents and other small objects of daily value. The buckle makes Kangarù adjustable and adaptable to the body. The versatile yet subtle and discreet pockets allow easy organisation and a comfortable fit under any garment, during the day or at night. Kangarù is part of the social and upcycling project obdachlos in bozen | bolzano senzatetto promoted by Salewa, which gave us students waste material to work with, and by Volontarius association.
Kangarù was produced in a small series by the social cooperative SMART in Rovereto and then delivered to the homeless.

FROM ONE THING TO ANOTHER
A conference held at the Bolzano campus focused on poverty in our society. Particular attention was paid to the problem of homelessness. We, design students, reacted sensitively and decided to get involved. During the winter semester with professor Kuno Prey, we developed various products from waste materials provided by the SALEWA group.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND HUMAN SUSTAINABILITY
We started with the materials we had and tried to make the best out of them, paying careful attention to detail. We had to talk to the volunteers and listen to the real needs of the homeless, have respect and be empathetic.

A UTILITY BELT
Kangarù is a humble but powerful tool. It is a lightweight, discreet and versatile belt, useful for carrying around the most important things and protecting them from loss and theft. Kangarù keeps safe mementos, documents, some coins, phone, handkerchiefs and so on.
